Sport at Knox Academy is on the up, with the school now regularly fielding 3 hockey teams, 3 rugby teams and 5 basketball teams. We are hopeful that with the strong links being developed between Knox and the feeder primaries in the Haddington cluster, next years S1s will again increase the number of sports teams training at the school and playing on a Saturday.
Unlike many other schools however, several of our teams are reliant on one adult. This means this person is responsible for coaching the team, accompanying them to games, organising kit, collecting money and in some cases refereeing matches.
I'm sure you will agree this is far too much to expect of one person, which is why at Knox Academy we are now targeting staff, parents, other adults in the Haddington area and senior pupils to assist with the extra-curricular programme.
No experience? No problem! Active Schools can offer access to free coaching courses, as well as providing financial assistance for training courses with a cost. Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator Andy Lambert can support you and ensure your first few steps into coaching are as smooth as possible.
Not sure you're ready for the resposnibility of coaching a team? We have plenty other roles we are looking for help with; assistant coaches, team managers to organise team selection, collect money etc, people to wash strips, first aider and people simply willing to help with transport and cheer on the team are all sought after. So regardless of your experience or availability, there is a role for you to play in Knox Academy's extra-curricular programme.
If you would like more information on helping out, or if you are involved in a sport not yet represented at Knox and would like to seet-up a new club, contact Sports COordinator Andy Lambert at the details below. Remember, Knox Needs You!
